Restricted free agent Alex Pietrangelo and the St. Louis Blues are at a standstill on contract talks and their star blueliner will not be at the start of training camp as player physicals get under way.

"Talks between the Blues and Alex's camp have broken off for now and Alex will not be reporting for our camp today," Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said in a statement.

Pietrangelo, 23, is coming out of his entry-level contract. In 224 career NHL games with the Blues, Toronto-area native has 29 goals and 121 points.

While Pietrangelo had no arbitration rights, the team already said it does not plan to trade him away or lose him through a possible offer sheet.
