The St. Louis Blues and restricted free agent defenceman Alex Pietrangelo have agreed to terms on a new seven-year, $45.5 million contract.

The deal has an average annual value of $6.5 million.

"We're excited to have Alex in the fold for the next seven years as he will continue be a key component of our franchise," said Blues general manager Doug Armstrong in a statement. "He is an elite defenceman in this league and will be for years to come."

"Really excited to be a part of Blues organization for the next 7 years. Excited for the opportunity," tweeted Pietrangelo after the deal was announced.

The 23-year-old played in 47 games for the Blues last season with five goals and 19 assists.
