The Florida Panthers are adding to their roster ahead of the regular season opening, signing defenceman Ryan Whitney to a one-year deal worth $900K.

The former Edmonton Oilers defenceman was with the St. Louis Blues in training camp on a professional tryout.

Whitney, 30, had four goals and 13 points in 34 games with the Oilers last season.

In 474 career games, Whitney has 50 goals and 259 points with Oilers, Anaheim Ducks, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
