The New York Islanders returned defenceman Griffin Reinhart to the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old Reinhart appeared in four pre-season games with the Islanders, recording two points with a plus-2 rating. The North Vancouver, BC, native remained with the Islanders through the first three games of the regular season, but did not appear in a game.

Last season, he scored 29 points in 59 games in his third year with Edmonton and his first as team captain. Reinhart added seven points in 12 WHL playoff games, before suffering a foot injury in Game 3 of the Conference Finals that forced him to miss the remainder of the postseason.

The Islanders selected Reinhart fourth overall in the 2012 NHL Draft.
