The Florida Panthers will not be loaning Aleksander Barkov to the Finnish team at the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championship.
"There's no way he's going anywhere but here," Panthers GM Dale Tallon told the Miami Herald's George Richards. "We have to let him grow. He's a big part of our future and our present."
Barkov - the second overall pick at the 2013 NHL Draft - has appeared in each of the Panthers 28 games this season, scoring four goals and six assists.
The 18-year-old suited up for the 2013 Finnish World Junior team, scoring three goals and four assists in six games.
Finland finished seventh at the 2013 tournament, going 1-2-1 in Group A, missing the medal round behind first place Sweden, second-place Czech Republic and Switzerland.
They would dominate the relegation round, beating Germany 8-0 and crushing Slovakia by an 11-4 score.
