Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils have placed defenceman Anton Volchenkov on injured reserve, retroactive to Dec. 27,

The 31-year-old Russian has been out of action since that day with an unknown injury.

New Jersey also activated forward Ryan Carter from injured reserve, placed forward Mattias Tedenby on waivers and recalled forward Mike Sislo from Albany of the American Hockey League.

Carter hasn't played since Nov. 30 due to a knee injury. He picked up three goals and five points in 24 games before the setback.

Tedenby was given a non-roster release, which means, if he clears waivers by noon (et) on Saturday, he will become a free agent rather than being assigned to the minors.

The 24th-overall pick in the 2008 draft totaled only 10 goals and 30 points in 120 games with the Devils in the last four seasons.
