Tim Murray might have an edge in becoming the Buffalo Sabres next general manager.
TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie tweeted on Monday that Murray - currently an assistant general manager with the Ottawa Senators - has had a second interview for the Sabres job and appears to be the front-runner.
However, other candidates such as Boston Bruins assistant general manager Jim Benning, Phoneix Coyotes assistant GM Brad Treliving and Los Angeles Kings co-director of amateur scouting Mike Futa have not yet been told they are out of the running.
The Sabres have been searching for a new GM since firing general manager Darcy Regier and head coach Ron Rolston on Nov. 13. They subsequently hired Pat LaFontaine as their new president of hockey operations and also named Ted Nolan as interim head coach - his second time as bench boss of the team.
