Bruins' Chara named Slovakia's flag bearer for Sochi

Boston Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara has been named flag bearer for Slovakia at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games.

Bruins head coach Claude Julien said Chara could miss the team's two final games before the Olympic break as he travels to Russia.

The Bruins' captain has nine goals and 19 points with a plus- 5 rating this season.

Chara has appeared in two previous Olympic Games, playing for the Slovakia in 2006 and 2010.
