The Carolina Hurricanes have dealt forward Tuomo Ruutu to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for centre Andrei Loktionov and a conditional third-round selection in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
In 57 games with the Hurricanes this season Ruutu has scored five goals and 11 assists.
Ruutu, a 2010 and 2014 Olympic bronze medal winner with Finland, is currently in the second year of a four-year deal worth an average annual value of $4.75 million.
In 606 career games with the Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks the 31-year-old has scored 138 goals and 186 assists. He was originally selected ninth overall by the Blackhawks at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
He has been dealt once before at the NHL trade deadline, with the Blackhawks sending him to Carolina at the 2008 deadline in exchange for Andrew Ladd.
Loktionov, 23, has scored 19 goals and 19 assists in 135 career games with the Devils and Los Angeles Kings. He was originally selected in the fifth round (123rd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Kings.
