EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers have hired Bill Scott as assistant general manager.

Scott spent the past four seasons as GM of the Oklahoma City Barons, Edmonton's AHL affiliate. The Barons made the Calder Cup playoffs all four years that Scott was in charge.

"I would like to welcome Bill and his family to Edmonton," Oilers GM Craig MacTavish said in a statement. "Bill has done an exceptional job managing all facets of the Barons day to day operations and has played a large part in their success over the past four years."

Scott, a 33-year-old from Unionville, Ont., will be responsible for player and staff contract negotiations, scheduling, salary arbitration, salary cap management and day-to-day administrative duties. He will also serve the club's liaison to the NHL regarding matters pertaining to the collective bargaining agreement.

He replaces Ricky Olczyk, who was offered another position within the Oilers organization but declined.

"I'd like to thank Ricky for his seven years of service with the Oilers organization and wish him nothing but the best during this transition period and with future endeavours," MacTavish said.
