Derek Stepan has a broken jaw, according to his coach Alain Vigneault.

The New York Rangers centre suffered the injury on a late hit from Montreal Canadiens forward Brandon Prust.

While doctors cleared Stepan to continue playing last night, Vigneault said the broken jaw diagnosis was made Friday morning and that Stepan will require surgery.

Prust has a discipline hearing for the late hit Friday afternoon.

Stepan had three goals and 11 points in 17 playoff games this year.
