The Dallas Stars have placed defenceman Aaron Rome on waivers with the purposes of buying him out.

The 30-year-old tallied one assist in just 25 games with the Stars during an injury plagued 2013-14 season.

Rome has one year left on his contract with an average annual value of $1.5 million. The native of Brandon, Manitoba originally signed a three-year deal worth $4.5 million with Dallas as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2012.

In 226 career games with the Stars, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Vancouver Canucks Rome has six goals and 22 assists.

The buyout period started Monday at 12:01 a.m. A player must first be waived in order to be bought out unless he has a no movement clause.
