Pat LaFontaine is returning to his work with the NHL.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, Lafontaine has re-joined the Deputy Commissioner's Office as vice president of Hockey Development and Community Affairs.

LaFontaine resigned as President of the Buffalo Sabres one day after the team traded goaltender Ryan Miller to the St. Louis Blues and just over three months after he accepted the job with the team.

Prior to leaving for the Sabres, LaFontaine worked with the league on player safety issues.
