The Colorado Avalanche signed defenceman Tyson Barrie to a two-year contract worth an average annual value of $2.6 million on Thursday.
The deal will pay Barrie $2 million in 2014-15 and $3.2 million in 2015-16.
"Tyson is a big part of the young nucleus of our team," Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic said in statement. "He is a gifted young defenseman who brings a lot of offense. We are pleased to have him under contract and look forward to his contribution this upcoming season."
The 23-year-old scored 13 goals last and added 25 assists in 64 games with the Avalanche.
In 106 career NHL games, Barrie has scored 15 goals and 51 points.
He was drafted in the third round (64th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft.
