The NHL has suspended Calgary Flames winger Krzystof Oliwa for three games and coach Darryl Sutter for two games for their actions in the final seconds of Saturday night's loss to the Nashville Predators. The Flames have also been fined $50,000 Canadian.
With three seconds to play, Sutter sent out the rugged foursome of Oliwa along with defencemen Robyn Regehr, defencemen Rhett Warrener and Mike Commodore. Oliwa received an automatic three-game suspension for physical abuse of officials.
Sutter's suspension was for player selection and team conduct. Sutter will be eligible to return Mar. 25 against the San Jose Sharks. Oliwa will be eligible to return Mar. 27 versus the Los Angeles Kings. Based on the average annual salary of his contract and under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Oliwa will forfeit $18,292.68 in salary.
