The Toronto Maple Leafs moved up in the draft on Friday, sending their seventh overall pick and a pair of conditional picks to the New York Islanders in exchange for the fifth overall pick.

The Leafs made the move to draft defenceman Luke Schenn of the Kelowna Rockets. In Schenn, the Leafs get a physically punishing, defensive defenceman who should help shore up the Leafs' porous blue line.

This move also comes on the heels of Toronto acquiring forward Jamal Mayers from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a third round pick Thursday night.

The conditional picks are either the Maple Leafs 60th overall pick this season and a third round pick next year, or pick No. 68 from this year's draft and the Leafs' second-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
