Scott Niedermayer is returning for one more season.

Niedermayer and Anaheim Ducks general manager Brian Burke met briefly Thursday morning at which point the 34-old-defenceman informed Burke he will return for the final year of his contract.

''I had a great time last season after returning to the team,'' said Niedermayer. ''I'm excited about having another opportunity to win, and fully expect this team to be competing for another Stanley Cup next spring.''

Last month, the Ducks reportedly gave Niedermayer and soon-to-be free agent winger Teemu Selanne a late-June deadline to make their intentions on next season known.

''It's no secret what Scotty has meant to this organization over the past three years,'' Burke said in a statement. ''Needless to say, we are thrilled he's returning to play for the upcoming season.''

After the Ducks' Stanley Cup win in 2007, Niedermayer contemplated retirement and did not play for the team until Dec. 16. Last season, Niedermayer played in 48 regular season games scoring eight goals with 25 points and a minus-2 rating.

The defending champion Ducks were eliminated by the Dallas Stars in the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
