The Montreal Canadiens were dealing with the fallout Wednesday after a very physical game with the Flames Tuesday night.

The team will be without defenceman Mathieu Dandenault for an extended period of time after he underwent an operation to repair a broken bone in his arm. Dandenault suffered the injury when he received a hard hit by Flames forward Dustin Boyd during the second period of Tuesday's 4-1 win over Calgary.

In addition, the team is also waiting results of an MRI on forward Chris Higgins, who left during the second period of Tuesday's game with an "upper body injury."  Higgins will miss Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The loss of both of those veterans could be an opportunity for a pair of young players as defenceman Ryan O'Byrne and forward Guillaume Latendresse could return to the lineup after both were healthy scratches recently.
