Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Jamie Heward left Thursday's 7-4 loss to the Capitals on a stretcher midway through the third period with a concussion.
With just over 13 minutes left in the stanza, Alex Ovechkin checked Heward into the boards head-first and he fell to the ice. The former Capital remained on the ice for several minutes before being placed on a stretcher and taken to a hospital.
Ovechkin was not issued a penalty on the play.
The 37-year-old Heward has two assists this season for the Lightning.
