RALEIGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to terms with defenceman Jamie McBain on a three-year contract.

The entry-level deal will pay McBain an average of US$600,000 per year at the NHL level and $62,500 in the minors. There is also a $255,000 signing bonus for McBain, picked by Carolina in the second round of the 2006 draft.

McBain will join Carolina's top minor league affiliate, Albany of the American Hockey League, for the rest of the 2008-09 season.

The 21-year-old McBain was the Western Collegiate Hockey Association player of the year after ranking second among NCAA Division I defencemen in scoring with 37 points at Wisconsin.
