MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens are bringing Larry Carriere home.

The Canadiens named Carriere assistant general manager and director of player personnel on Friday, replacing the departed Julien BriseBois.

Carriere has been a pro scout for the Washington Capitals since 2004. Prior to that, he spent two decades with the Buffalo Sabres, including 10 years as assistant general manager.

He's looking forward to the new job.

"Having grown up in the Montreal boroughs of Parc-Extension and Ville St-Laurent, I am grateful for this opportunity to bring my experience to the Canadiens," Carriere said in a statement. "I have a great deal of respect for the tradition of the organization, and the passion of its fanbase. I look forward to this new challenge."

The 33-year-old BriseBois had spent nine seasons with the Canadiens. He's moving to Tampa to become an assistant general manager with the Lightning.

"He is regarded as one of the best young minds in the game and he should be a strong asset as we continue in our efforts to build a first class, professionally-run franchise," Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said of BriseBois.
