EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers named veteran centre Shawn Horcoff as their new team captain on Wednesday.

The Trail, B.C., native is the 13th player to wear the C since the team joined the NHL in 1979.

He succeeds Ethan Moreau, who was claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets last June after the Oilers put him on waivers.

Horcoff, 32, is entering his 10th NHL season, all with the Oilers. Edmonton selected him in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 1998 NHL entry draft.

Horcoff had 36 points (13 goals, 23 assists) in 77 games last season. He has recorded 374 points (133-241) in 637 career games.
