TORONTO -- Ottawa Senators coach Cory Clouston remains optimistic that captain Daniel Alfredsson will play against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but a final decision won't be made until just before Tuesday's game.

The veteran forward didn't take the morning skate at Air Canada Centre and is suffering from what the team calls a lower-body injury.

"We expect he'll play, but we'll wait and see until game time," said Clouston.

Alfredsson suffered the injury during Monday's practice, but wouldn't elaborate on what happened.

"It's getting better today for sure," he said. "Obviously, not good enough to be on the ice this morning. But hopefully by tonight I hope it will be good enough so I can play."

The 37-year-old Swede leads the Senators in scoring this season. He has six goals and 12 points in 11 games.

Brian Elliott will get the start in goal against the Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
