Boston Bruins centre Marc Savard was evaluated by team doctors on Monday and has been deemed to have suffered a concussion.

The 33-year-old is out definitely.

Savard suffered the head injury during the second period of Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche, when he was hit by former teammate Matt Hunwick and crashed into the boards head-first. Savard did not travel to Los Angeles with the Bruins, but rather went to Boston on Sunday to see doctors.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli confirmed the nature of Savard's injury in a press release.

"After being examined by the Bruins medical staff today, Marc has been diagnosed with a moderate concussion," said Chiarelli, "There is no timetable on his return and no further updates at this time."

This is not Savard's first brush with a concussion-related absence from the game. The Ottawa native missed the first 23 games of this season due to post-concussion syndrome from a Grade 2 concussion that he suffered in March of 2010.
