CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Two-time Stanley Cup winner Cory Stillman announced his retirement Saturday to become a player development assistant with the Florida Panthers.

Stillman spent 16 seasons as a left wing in the NHL, scoring 278 goals and collecting 449 assists while playing with Calgary, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Ottawa and Florida. Stillman helped Tampa Bay win the Stanley Cup in 2004, then had 26 post-season points and hoisted it again with Carolina two years later.

Stillman will assist player development director Brian Skrudland in monitoring the progress and development of prospects. Stillman was with the team Saturday for the start of rookie camp, and said he knows the time was right to retire.

He had a career-best 80 points with the Lightning in the 2003-04 season.
