With Monday's NHL Trade Deadline looming, teams are making decisions on whether to buy or sell and deciding which players can make the biggest difference or hold the greatest value.

Check out today's trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat, and follow TSN.ca each day until Deadline Day for all the updates.

Open for Business

The Vancouver Canucks decision to put defenceman Keith Ballard on long-term injured reserve pushes the team heavily into the trade market, according to TSN Insider Bob McKenzie.

While the team could still activate Ballard for the playoffs, the salary cap space provided to the team by the assignment opens the possibility of the Canucks landing any number of high-end trade targets including Dallas' Steve Ott or Kings captain Dustin Brown.

Guarding Gardiner

TSN Insider Darren Dreger reported via Twitter that the Maple Leafs are expected to continue their pursuit of Columbus captain Rick Nash, despite the teams having gone days without contact.

Dreger did report, however, that the Leafs have no intention of moving rookie defenceman Jake Gardiner as part of any potential Nash deal.

Earlier on Saturday, Nash's agent told TSN that Nash's list of approved trade destinations will not expand during the summer, should Columbus choose to deal the sniper in the off-season.

B's Gotta Av It?

The Bruins search for all-round depth continues according to TSN Insider Pierre LeBrun. Ideally, he says, the team would like to add both a forward and a defenseman. The team may have interest in a trio of Avalanche forwards - Daniel Winnik, T.J. Galiardi and David Jones - who are all on the block.

Winnik and Jones are unrestricted free agents at season's end while Galiardi is restricted.

Hammer to Fall?

Rumored to be on the block before Saturday's game in Toronto, Capitals veterans Mike Knuble and Roman Hamrlik were once again healthy scratches against the Leafs.

The 37-year-old Hamrlik has gotten on coach Dale Hunter's bad side recently with poor showings on the ice and then for publicly criticizing his coach. The Czech blueliner still has one year remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $3.5 million. Knuble is set to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end.

Oduya Do Ya Do Ya Wanna?

The Winnipeg Jets currently find themselves eighth in the Eastern Conference, so they may tread carefully in the trade market. However, sources tell LeBrun that defenceman Johnny Oduya was garnering the most interest.

Oduya is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Round 1 wraps up with Patrick Kane of the Blackhawks facing the Bruins' Zdeno Chara.
