Alex Ovechkin and Alex Semin have agreed to join Team Russia at the IIHF World Hockey Championship and are expected to join the tournament in time for Thursday's quarter-final game.

The Washington Capitals were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs on Saturday, making the two players available for the tournament.

Russia sits in first place in Group S, tied with Sweden at 15 points, and face Italy on Monday to close out the round-robin portion.
