Some quick thoughts from the NHL on TSN panel on Saturday night.

This game is an example of why the Los Angeles Kings went out at the trade deadline to get Jeff Carter

Carter is a player who underachieved and played poorly for the Columbus Blue Jackets, but the Kings knew what everyone else knows about Carter, he scores goals and he scores big goals.

In back-to-back World Junior Championships he scored a ton.  In the Calder Cup playoffs he led the Philadelphia Phantoms in goals and points before he had even fully turned pro coming out of junior hockey, scoring 14 goals in 21 games.

Carter also played well In the Stanley Cup finals two years ago for the Philadelphia Flyers, all he does is score goals.

Quick at top form in Game 2

Jonathan Quick played much better in this game than he did at any time during the Phoenix Coyotes series, he looked like he was right back on his form and he had to be that good.

The New Jersey Devils were very aggressive in terms of getting shots to the net on Saturday.  I don't think the Devils did as good of a job in the first 40 minutes of getting bodies in front of the net and Quick was able to see a lot of the shots that they took.

In the third period the Devils started doing what they did in the last series against Henrik Lunqvist, layering those players and getting the tip that led to the goal, but Quick is so agile, flexible and athletic in net.

Marty Broduer wasn't half bad either but this was a night when the Devils fired a lot of shots at Quick, missed the net a lot and the Kings did a good job of blocking a lot of shots.
