The Colorado Avalanche have agreed to terms on a two-year, $5.3 million deal with forward Steve Downie.

The contract will pay Downie $2.55M in first year and $2.75M in second.

Avalanche acquired the 25-year-old forward in a February trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenceman Kyle Quincy.

As a member of the Avalanche, Downie appeared in 20 games, contributing two goals and 11 assists with 16 minutes in penalties.

Overall last season, split between both teams, Downie finished with 14 goals and 41 points in 75 games.

The Newmarket, Ontario native was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers 29th overall in the first round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

He spent parts of two seasons with the Flyers before being dealt to the Lightning.

Downie would have been a restricted free-agent on July 1st if he had not re-signed with the Avalanche.
