Phoenix Coyotes forward Brett MacLean is reportedly improving after suffering a cardiac emergency while playing hockey in Owen Sound, Ontario on Monday.

Coyotes general manager Don Maloney gave an update to the Arizona Republic's website, azcentral.com, on Wednesday.

"He's better," Maloney said. "Our understanding is he'll be out of ICU later (Wednesday). Our medical staff is in communication with the people up in Ontario, so our understanding is things are improving".

The Coyotes announced on Tuesday that MacLean had required CPR on site when the incident occurred and was taken by air ambulance to University Hospital in London, Ontario.

MacLean, 23, played most of last season with Portland of the American Hockey League. He has appeared in 18 NHL games with Winnipeg and Phoenix.
