The Boston Bruins have locked up forward Tyler Seguin with a new six-year, $34.5 million contract extension.
The average annual value of the deal is $5.75 million per season.
The team made the announcement on Tuesday, just four days before the current NHL-NHLPA labour agreement is set to expire.
Seguin's deal is the second long-term contract for the Bruins inside of a week. They also signed Brad Marchand to a four-year deal last Friday.
"We've tried to be relatively proactive in extending contracts for guys prior to the start of the season and we're trying to keep our core together," Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli told the Associated Press after the Marchand signing. "It's part and parcel of that in what we're trying to do."
Seguin was the second overall pick behind Edmonton's Taylor Hall at the 2010 NHL Draft. The 20-year-old from Brampton, Ontario had 29 goals and 38 assists in 81 games for Boston last season and was chosen to play in his first NHL All-Star Game.
He was also a member of the Bruins' Stanley Cup-winning team in his rookie season when he began the campaign as an 18-year-old.
The 6'1, 182 lb. skater has one year remaining on his three-year entry-level deal. He will earn a base salary of $900,000 this season with performance bonuses available that are valued at $2.65 million. His cap hit to the Bruins this season, according to capgeek.com, is $3.55 million.
