San Jose Sharks captain Joe Thornton is the latest NHL player headed to Europe.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, Thornton is joining HC Davos of the Swiss League and will fly to Switzerland this week to play as early as this weekend.

"Hopefully the lockout ends sooner rather than later, but I have to go play," Thornton told LeBrun on ESPN.com.

ESPN.com hockey writer Katie Strang adds that New York Rangers forward Rick Nash is expected to join Thornton as well. Both played for HC Davos during the 2004-2005 lockout, helping the team to a league championship.

"If you find the right spot, it can be a real good experience, you meet some nice people and you get to keep playing hockey," Thornton told ESPN.com. "It worked out well for us I thought."
