New York Islanders star-forward John Tavares has joined Bern of the Swiss Elite League until the end of the NHL lockout.

Tavares is expected to arrive in Switzerland Tuesday and begin training with the club the following day.

The 22-year-old joins Islanders captain Mark Streit on the Swiss hockey club.

Formal collective bargaining talks are set to resume Friday in New York after a two week hiatus, with an emphasis on discussing non-core economic issues. The session is likely to run through the weekend.
