Columbus Blue Jackets prospect and current Everett Silvertips captain Ryan Murray will undergo shoulder surgery in two-to-three weeks and will likely be out for the rest of the season.

Last week, an MRI revealed a small tear in Murray's labrum and the Regina native flew to Columbus to determine the best course of action.

The smooth-skating defenceman will be sidelined for up to six months and as a result, will not be in the Team Canada lineup for the World Junior Hockey Championship next month in Russia.

Final selection camp for Team Canada starts December 10, with the first game taking place on December 26.

The Blue Jackets selected Murray with the second overall selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
