Vancouver Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider is the latest locked out National Hockey League player to head overseas, as the 26-year-old will join HC Ambri Piotta of the Swiss League from now through December.

Because Schneider is a dual U.S./Swiss citizen, he doesn't count as an import.

Schneider is expected to suit up for his first practice with his new team on Thursday.

Sharing duties with Roberto Luongo last season, Schneider had a 20-8-1 record in 33 appearances with a 1.96 goals-against-average with a .937 save percentage.

Just after the season ended, Schneider signed a three-year, $12 million deal.

Schneider was drafted by the Canucks in the first round (26th overall) in the 2004 Draft.
