The Pittsburgh Penguins have claimed forward Zach Boychuk off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Boychuk, 23, appeared in the Hurricanes' season opener against the Florida Panthers and has been a healthy scratch the past four games.

The Airdrie, Alb., native has 16 goals and 16 assists in 37 games for Carolina's American Hockey League affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.

In 73 games over parts of five seasons, Boychuk posted seven goals, 18 points and a minus-4 rating.
