The New York Islanders have agreed to terms with defenceman Brian Strait on a three- year contract that will pay $775,000 per season.

The 25-year-old joined the Islanders in January after being claimed on waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins and has played in all six of his team's games.

A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Strait appeared in 12 NHL games with the Penguins over two seasons and picked up one assist.

He was selected 65th overall in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
