The Calgary Flames may have received some good news regarding the injury status of starting goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.

Reports indicate that the injury the veteran Flames netminder suffered during Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings is related to the MCL in his knee but is not considered to be serious at this point.

The Flames are awaiting further tests and information.

"In the second period, I felt some discomfort in the lower body area, said Kiprusoff in a statement on Wednesday. "During the intermission, it was decided that I not return to play. I really believe that this is a short-term injury and over the next days, I'll work toward being ready as soon as possible."

Kiprusoff, who is listed as day-to-day, made 19 saves before being pulled after the second period and replaced by backup goaltender Leland Irving, who stopped all six shots he faced in his 20 minutes of work to preserve the victory.

Kiprusoff, who is listed as day-to-day, has started all seven games for the Flames this season and holds a 2-3-2 record with a 3.23 GAA.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Flames announced the signing of 26-year-old goaltender Danny Taylor to a one year, two-way contract that will pay him $525,000 when he is in the NHL and $80,000 when he is in the American Hockey League with the Abbotsford Heat.

So far this season with the Heat, Taylor has compiled a 13-9-1 record with a 1.77 GAA and two shutouts.

Taylor was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings, 221st overall in the 7th round of the 2004 NHL Draft.
