The Chicago Blackhawks are off to one of the best starts in NHL history but have received some bad news on the injury front. Forward Patrick Sharp will miss at least the next three weeks with a severe AC joint shoulder separation.

The injury occurred during the third period of the Blackhawks' 3-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night that extended their point streak to 24 games.

Sharp was forced to leave the game with what was reported at the time as an upper-body injury, after being hit against the boards by Avalanche defenceman Ryan O'Byrne.

After taking the hit, Sharp went directly to the Blackhawks dressing room and did not return to the game.

The 31-year-old forward has five goals and 13 assists in 24 games so far this season for the Blackhawks.
