Scott Hannan has returned to the San Jose Sharks.

The Nashville Predators have traded the 34-year-old defender to the Sharks in exchange for a conditional 2013 seventh-round draft pick. The pick would become a sixth-rounder in the event Hannan plays in one playoff game this season.

Hannan has registered one assist and a minus-11 rating in 29 games with the Predators this season. He is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end after signing a one-year, $1 million deal with the Predators prior to this season.

Originally drafted in the first round (23rd overall) by San Jose at the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Hannan played his first seven seasons with the Sharks.

In 937 career games with the Sharks, Predators, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals and Calgary Flames, Hannan has scored 33 goals and 165 assists.

He has represented Canada internationally, winning a gold medal at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and a silver medal at the 2005 IIHF World Championships.
