The Buffalo Sabres have dealt their captain, Jason Pominville, and a 2014 fourth-round draft pick to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for goaltender Matt Hackett, forward Johan Larsson, a 2013 first-round draft pick and a 2014 second-round draft pick.

Pominville was asked earlier this week to submit a list of eight teams to which he will not accept a trade, as per the terms of his limited no-movement clause.

Regier had reportedly told Pominville that with the team's current place in the standings, he needs to see what is available via trade before the trade deadline.

"Minnesota just became a very dangerous team,” stated TSN Hockey Analyst Mike Johnson.

Pominville is coming off a 30-goal season in 2011-12 and has missed just nine games in the last seven years. This season, he's recorded 10 goals and 15 assists through 37 games.

“He plays the point on the power play. He's a top six forward who can play both sides of the ice, he can score and he can check... This is a terrific pick-up, although for two really good prospects,” TSN Hockey Analyst Ray Ferraro.

Selected to the NHL All-Star Game in 2011-12, Pominville has ranked amongst the Sabres top performers since his first full season in Buffalo in 2006-07.

In 578 games with the Sabres, Pominville has scored 185 goals and 271 assists.

Pominville has one year remaining on his five-year, $26.5 million contract after this season with a cap hit of $5.3 million.

A veteran of four post-seasons with the Sabres, Pominville has scored 12 goals and 16 assists in 45 playoff games. Pominville was originally selected in the second round (55th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Sabres.

Hackett and Larsson are both highly-regarded prospects.

The 23-year-old Hackett was drafted in the third round (77th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Wild. He has appeared in 13 career games with the Wild, posting a 3-7 record with a 2.63 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.

Larsson, 20, was a second-round pick (56th overall) by the Wild in 2010. He has appeared in just one game with the Wild this season, but scored 12 goals and 24 assists in 49 games with Brynas of the Swedish Elite League in 2011-12.

He captained Sweden to a World Junior Championship gold medal in 2012.
