The Boston Bruins reached an agreement on a multi-year contract with forward Carl Soderberg on Wednesday, but sources say that the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation is trying to block the deal.

The Bruins acquired the 27-year-old Soderberg in 2007 in a trade with the St. Louis Blues for goaltender Hannu Toivonen.

The deal the Bruins have with Soderberg  would pay him $600,000 this season, including a $500,000 signing bonus, and $1 million per season for the next two years.

The Bruins had attempted to convince Soderberg to play in the NHL several times in the past but failed to do so.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound centre had 31 goals and 60 points in 54 games with Linkoping this season.

Soderberg was selected 49th overall by the Blues in the 2004 NHL Draft.
