The Vancouver Canucks will have Roberto Luongo in goal for their regular season finale on Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers.
General manager Mike Gillis told the media on Thursday that the move was designed to give Cory Schneider a few extra recovery days as he deals with an undisclosed injury.
Luongo, the Canucks' former captain, is expected to leave Vancouver via trade or contract buyout in the off-season. He was expected to be traded last summer after Schneider displaced him as the starter in the 2012 playoffs, but the Canucks did not get the deal they wanted at the trade deadline.
Head coach Alain Vigneault said on Wednesday that Schneider was injured in Monday's win over Chicago, which the goalie completed without any apparent difficulties.
Luongo started for the Canucks against the Ducks on Thursday with Joe Cannata serving as the backup.
