The Carolina Hurricanes have signed defenceman Mike Komisarek to a one-year, $700,000 contract.

The blueliner was bought out by the Toronto Maple Leafs this week.

After 10 NHL seasons, Komisarek will be playing for his first American club. He has split his career between the Montreal Canadiens and the Leafs.

In 519 NHL contests, the West Islip, New York native has 14 goals and 63 assists along with 665 penalty minutes.
