The Minnesota Wild have signed forward Matt Cooke to a three-year, $7.5 million contract.

In 48 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, Cooke picked up 21 points and 48 penalty minutes.  He also played in 15 playoff games contributing four assists and 35 minutes in penalties.

He was originally drafted in the sixth-round, 144th overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks.  During his career he has also played for Washington Capitals.

Cooke has also been suspended multiple times for illegal hits over the course of his career including being banned for the final 10 games of the 2010/11 regular season and the first round of the playoffs for elbowing Rangers defenceman Ryan McDonagh.
