Four weeks after a massive flood hit southern Alberta, the Calgary Flames appear ready to re-open the water-damaged Scotiabank Saddledome in time for the start of the season.

Flames president and CEO Ken King told The Globe and Mail on Wednesday that repairs to the club's home arena are right on schedule and the building will be ready to host preseason games in September.

"From a public standpoint, and from a hockey standpoint, we want everything to be operational," King told The Globe and Mail. "This week was the time to decide if we could proceed as planned - and the answer is yes."

The Flames will play their four preseason games at the Saddledome beginning Sept. 14 against the Edmonton Oilers and have their regular season home opener on Oct. 6 against the Vancouver Canucks.

Last month, Scotiabank Saddledome and the Stampede grounds were among the many areas hit by severe flooding as Alberta's provincial government called on the residents of Calgary's flood-hit regions to head to higher ground.

The flood water seeped quickly into the Saddledome and went up as high as the eighth row of seats. The team told The Globe an Mail that the current work involves putting in new kitchen areas and seats as well as replacing the workspace for the arena's digital-screen scoreboard.

"We have orders in for new ice-making equipment," said King. "We have a backup plant that we may not need but we have it ready. All of our event-floor equipment is new."
