It appears Alexei Ponikarovsky may be joining Ilya Kovalchuk in the KHL.
Ponikarovsky has reportedly signed a deal with SKA, the same club Kovalchuk now plays for, according to Sports.ru's Igor Eronko.
"We spent summer together with Kovalchuk, he praised SKA, told me about the organization, and that helped to make decision,'" Ponikarovsky said, according to Eronko.
Ponikarovsky, an unrestricted free agent, spent time last season with the New Jersey Devils and Winnipeg Jets. The 33-year-old had two goals in 12 games for the Jets, before being traded to the Devils, where he posted two goals and seven points in 30 games.
Ponikarovksy was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fourth round of the 1998 NHL Draft.
