Joe Thornton had to cancel his trip to Calgary for Team Canada's Orientation Camp to tend to an illness in the family.

His two-month-old son was in hospital but has since returned home.

Thornton was a part of Team Canada's gold medal-winning team at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Last season, Thornton scored seven goals and added 33 assists for 40 points in 48 games with the San Jose Sharks.
