The New Jersey Devils said on Monday that they have signed unrestricted free agent Damien Brunner to a professional tryout.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com said the 27-year-old has arrived in New Jersey from his native Switzerland and will be on the ice with the club on Tuesday.

Brunner made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings last season after playing his first seven pro seasons in the Swiss Elite League. In 44 games with Detroit Brunner had 12 goals and 14 assists.

The 5'11", 184 lb. forward had 272 points in 304 career games in the Swiss league, mostly with the club team Zug.

The Devils are still looking for some help up front to replace Ilya Kovalchuk, who retired from the NHL over the summer to play in the KHL.
