The Calgary Flames reduced their training camp roster by four players on Thursday, assigning forwards Michael Ferland, Corban Knight and Max Reinhart to the AHL's Abbotsford Heat.

The club also returned defenceman Keegan Kanzig to the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League.

The Flames have 28 players remaining at camp - three goalies, nine defencemen and 16 forwards - with the opening day roster due for submission to the NHL on September 30.

The Flames open the 2013-14 season on October 3 against the Washington Capitals, with the team's home opener on October 6 versus the Vancouver Canucks at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
